Fagus-GreCon donates to the Heesfelder Mühle to repair the damage caused by the flood

The flood in July 2021 also affected the cultural monument Heesfelder Mühle in Halver. For the reconstruction, Fagus-GreCon donated 1,500 euros to the association to support the financing of the construction measures.
The historic mill and school building suffered serious damage. Restoration work is already in progress, but the final costs for restoring of the listed building can only be estimated. This information has also reached Fagus-GreCon in Alfeld, whose subsidiary in Lüdenscheid will pay some costs for renovation and restoration.
The background to the campaign is the consciousness of tradition of the family company. The company founder Carl Benscheidt (1858-1947) originally came from the county. Young Carl spent a lot of time at the school in Heesfeld up to the age of 12 and caught a number of colds there “with wet feet and clothes”, as his biography “From My Life” says. On the four-kilometer walk from Olthmaringhausen to Heesfeld to school, young Carl may even have had the idea for his shoe last factory, which years later he had built far away in Alfeld from the famous architect Walter Gropius.
Fagus-GreCon develops and sells measuring technology and fire protection systems and has around 700 employees, mainly at the production sites in Lüdenscheid and Alfeld. When the company was founded in 1911, the focus was on the company's shoe last factory, which still exists today. Shoe lasts are still being developed and sold worldwide in the Fagus factory in Alfeld, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
"With the background of our company founder and as a regional employer in Lüdenscheid, we were particularly moved by the report of the immense flood damage in our region," explains Jörg Grote, head of the factory in Lüdenscheid. "The commitment of the association Heesfelder Mühle e.V. to the preservation of the listed mill and the school that our Carl Benscheidt attended is worthy of all honor. We want to help ensure that this special local culture is preserved,” explains Grote. To this end, the company is donating EUR 1,500 to the association to support the financing of the construction measures.
